Rocco Baldelli’s remarkable comeback from a career-threatening mitochondrial disorder inspired many throughout the 2008 season, earning him this year’s Conigliaro award. The Conigliaro award is presented to a major league player who has overcome adversity through the attributes of spirit, determination and courage that were trademarks of Tony C. The announcement was made today.
Baldelli fought his way back to the major leagues after being diagnosed with a mitochondrial disorder which causes chronic muscle fatigue. He missed 15 months with the illness and continues to battle his limitations. He played a key role for the Rays during the team’s postseason drive. The Rhode Island native contributed to Tampa Bay’s World Series berth and A.L. Championship by hitting .333 with one home run and 4 RBI in the American League Championship Series against the Boston Red Sox.
Tony C. became the youngest player (20) to lead a major league in home runs when he hit 32 in 1965, and the youngest in A.L. history to reach 100 homers (22 years, 197 days). His promising career was tragically shortened when he was hit in the face by a pitch at Fenway Park Aug. 18, 1967. He missed all of 1968, made a dramatic comeback in 1969 and was traded to the California Angels after the 1970 season. Tony played two years with the Angels and then made another comeback with the Red Sox in 1975, his final season in the majors.

The Gators enjoyed a substantial talent advantage against The Citadel, rolling up 705 yards of offense in a 70-19 rout of the visiting Bulldogs.
The win on senior day extended Florida’s current streak of scoring 42 points or more to six straight games, the longest active run in the nation.
It was the final home game for Florida’s 21 seniors, though much speculation swirled about whether it was the final home game for junior quarterback Tim Tebow, junior receiver Percy Harvin and junior linebacker Brandon Spikes. All three could end up entering their names in the NFL Draft at the end of the season. Tebow took a victory lap around Florida Field following the game. “I’m not even thinking about that right now,” Tebow said, when asked if it was his last home game.

Below is the blog entry that was posted live on ESPN, Saturday, the 22th of Nov.. ESPN Rocks!!!
Gators Salivate for Cute Alabama Elephant

Another Saturday comes and goes bringing us closer to the ultimate college football showdown. On Dec 6th, college football fans will witness the greatest game of the entire year when Florida meets Alabama in the SEC Championship. The winner of that game should be instantly assured an invitation to play in the Orange Bowl for the National Championship. The Gators once again annihilated their opponent Saturday by a score of 56-6, while Alabama looked like a Pop Warner team against a 3-7 Miss State team. Bama better watch out or they just might get surprised by the Auburn Tigers on Nov. 29th. But I hope not because like all Gator fans, I want them undefeated and ranked #1 in the nation. Just saving all that treasure for the hungry Gators to snatch away on Dec 6th. A victory as a minimum will put the Gators in second place nationally and playing for their third national championship. Go Gators!!!

Good teams can overcome poor shooting by playing strong defense. That’s a lesson Florida’s players never seemed to learn last season.
The Gators know that now and it showed Thursday night. Despite one of the worst 3-point shooting performances in school history, the 18th-ranked Gators beat Southern Utah 64-50 at the O’Connell Center. – Yahoo Sports
